How quotes work

A quote is only useful if you can rely on it. Here is exactly how one is put together and the one circumstance in which it moves.

The number is based on space, not time
Most jobs are priced by how much of the truck the load fills, so the quote reflects the pile rather than how long the crew takes. Heavy material — concrete, tile, soil, roofing debris — is the exception and is priced by weight, because it hits a truck's legal limit long before it fills it.
It holds if the job matches the description
A quote is given against what you told us. If what the crew finds matches, the price stands. If it is materially different — twice the volume, a second floor nobody mentioned, a refrigerant appliance — they re-quote on site before loading rather than adding to the bill afterwards.
You approve it before anything moves
Nothing goes on the truck until you have seen the number and said yes. If the revised figure does not work for you, you can cut the scope down or send the crew away. There is no charge for deciding not to proceed.
Fee items are named up front
Mattresses, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, televisions and tires each carry a per-unit facility charge that gets passed through. Tell us if you have any and they are in the quote from the start instead of appearing at the end.
