Category 1

Furniture

Anything upholstered, wooden or metal that a household or office sits on, sleeps on or stores things in.

Worth knowing

Mattresses and box springs carry a separate per-unit disposal or recycling fee in most markets. Furniture in good condition is offered to donation partners where local receiving standards allow it.

Category 2

Appliances

Major household appliances, which are largely recoverable steel and go to metal recyclers rather than a landfill.

Worth knowing

Anything containing refrigerant — refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers — must have that refrigerant recovered by a certified technician under EPA rules, which carries a separate fee. Water, gas and hardwired electrical connections need to be professionally disconnected before pickup.

Category 3

Electronics

Consumer and office electronics, routed to e-waste recycling rather than mixed into a general load.

Worth knowing

Televisions and monitors carry a separate handling fee in most markets, and many states prohibit them from landfill entirely. Wipe or remove storage from any device holding personal data before pickup — a removal crew is not a data destruction service.

Category 4

Outdoor & Yard

Everything from the yard, patio and garden, including structures that need dismantling first.

Worth knowing

Clean green waste goes to composting or mulching facilities where the market has one. Soil, sod and rock are priced by weight rather than volume — they reach a truck's legal limit long before they look like a full load.

Renovation & Property Debris

Construction and demolition material from a remodel, repair or teardown.

Worth knowing

Construction debris is priced by weight, not volume. If the building predates 1980, suspected asbestos and lead paint must be assessed and abated by a licensed specialist before any removal — crews will flag it and stop rather than load it.

Category 6

General Household

The accumulated contents of garages, basements, attics, closets and storage units.

Worth knowing

Usable household goods are offered to local donation partners where they meet receiving standards. Sorting what you are keeping before the crew arrives is what makes these jobs fast.

These lists cover what comes up most, not everything. Junk removal is genuinely broad — if it is not hazardous and a crew can carry it, it can usually go, whether or not it appears here.

The exceptions are worth checking, because they are set by law rather than preference: what we don’t take covers paint, fuel, chemicals, asbestos, medical waste and the other restricted categories, along with where each one should actually go instead.

For anything unusual — a safe, a piano, a fuel tank, an industrial machine — send a photo with your quote request. It is faster than describing it, and it lets the crew tell you up front whether it is a job they can do.
