What affects the price
- The number of pieces — a mattress and box spring are two units, not one
- Mattress size, since a king set takes roughly twice the truck space of a twin
- Per-unit mattress disposal or recycling fees, which are set locally and vary widely
- Floor level and stair access
- Whether the frame and headboard are going as well
- Whether the mattress is part of a larger cleanout, which usually reduces the per-item cost
How to prepare
- Strip the bedding, and check under the mattress before the crew arrives.
- Count the pieces you actually need removed — mattress, box spring, frame and headboard are four separate items.
- Disclose any bed bug history when you book. It is a normal job, but only when the crew knows in advance.
- If your building requires mattresses to be bagged before they enter a common hallway, tell the crew so they bring the right size bag.
- Have the new bed's delivery window in mind so the removal lands before it, not after.

Do you recycle mattresses?
Where a mattress recycling facility serves the local market, yes — the steel, foam, fiber and wood are all recoverable. Recycling infrastructure for mattresses is genuinely uneven across the country, so a crew in one market may recycle every mattress while a crew in another has no facility within range.
Why is there a separate fee for mattresses?
Most disposal and recycling facilities charge per mattress rather than by volume, and that cost is passed through. It is the same reason mattresses are often excluded from municipal bulk pickup.
Will you take a mattress with bed bugs?
Yes, provided you disclose it when booking. The mattress is sealed before it leaves the room so the infestation is not spread through hallways or the truck. Not disclosing it can mean the crew cannot complete the job on the day.
Can you take just the box spring?
Yes. Box springs alone are a common request, especially when someone switches to a platform bed and only the foundation becomes surplus.
Do I have to take the mattress outside first?
No. The crew removes it from the bedroom. Moving it out yourself is optional and makes no difference to the price.
