Residential Service

Residential Junk Removal

Single items through whole-home cleanouts, handled by a local crew that does the carrying.

Overview

What residential junk removal covers

Residential junk removal is the full-service version of a dump run. Instead of renting a truck, finding help and figuring out which facility takes what, you point at the items and a Junk Koala team carries them out, loads them and handles the disposal.

That covers the whole range of household jobs: one heavy piece a homeowner cannot move alone, the accumulated contents of a garage or basement, or a complete cleanout after a move, a renovation or a change in family circumstances. The crew works from wherever the items are — upstairs bedrooms, finished basements, attic pull-downs, back yards — not just from the curb.

Most homes generate this kind of work only every few years, which is exactly why it tends to stall. The furniture is too heavy for two people, the pickup truck is too small, and the county transfer station is only open when you are at work. Booking a crew removes all three problems at once.

Who this is for

  • Homeowners clearing a garage, basement, attic, shed or spare room
  • Renters and condo owners who need items taken out of a building with stairs or a single elevator
  • Families downsizing, combining households or handling a relative's home
  • Anyone with a single item — a treadmill, a sleeper sofa, a safe — that two people cannot carry
  • Homeowners finishing a renovation and left with old fixtures, cabinets and packaging
  • Landlords and tenants clearing a property before a move-out inspection

Our approach

How Junk Koala handles residential work

  1. You point, the crew carries

Nothing needs to be moved to the curb first. The crew works from inside the home and brings items out along the route that protects your floors and doorways.

  2. Confirmation before anything is loaded

The crew walks the job with you, confirms exactly which items are going and what the price covers, and starts only once you agree. Items you decide to keep stay where they are.

  3. Careful removal through the house

Tight staircases, corners and finished spaces get handled deliberately. Large pieces are disassembled when that is the safer way out rather than forcing them through a doorway.

  4. Sorted disposal, not one trip to landfill

Loads are separated where local facilities allow it, so metal, electronics, yard waste and donatable goods go to the right destination instead of all going to the same place.

  5. The space is left swept

The crew tidies the area they worked in before leaving, so you get back a usable room rather than an outline of dust where the furniture used to be.

Cost & preparation

What moves the price, and how to get ready

No two jobs price the same. These are the factors that actually change the number — and the things you can do beforehand to keep it down.

What affects the price

  • How much space the load takes up in the truck — this is the primary driver on most residential jobs
  • Whether items are on an upper floor, in a basement or behind a long carry
  • Heavy or dense materials such as soil, tile, concrete and plaster, which are priced by weight at the disposal facility
  • Items that carry a separate facility fee, most commonly refrigerant appliances, tires, mattresses and televisions
  • Whether the crew is disassembling furniture or removing it whole
  • Local disposal and recycling rates, which differ from market to market
How pricing works

How to prepare

  • Decide what is going before the crew arrives — the fastest jobs are the ones where the keep pile is already separate.
  • Photograph anything oversized or awkward and attach it to your quote request. It is the single best way to get an accurate number up front.
  • Clear a path from the items to the door if you can, and let the crew know about narrow stairs, low ceilings or a gate that needs a code.
  • Take out anything you want to keep from drawers, cabinets and boxes. Once a dresser is on the truck it is gone.
  • Set aside paint, fuel, propane, pool chemicals and automotive fluids — those are handled through household hazardous waste programs, not a junk truck.

FAQ

Residential Junk Removal questions

If your question is not here, the full FAQ covers scheduling, disposal, access and payment.
All FAQs
Do I need to be home for the pickup?

Someone should be there to confirm what is being removed and approve the price before loading starts. If you cannot be on site, you can arrange for another adult to walk the job with the crew, or agree the scope in advance for items that are already outside and clearly identified.

Does the crew take items out of the house, or do I need to move them outside?

The crew removes items from wherever they are. Moving things to the curb yourself is optional — some customers do it to keep foot traffic out of the house, but it is never a requirement.

Can you take just one item?

Yes. Single-item pickups are one of the most common residential jobs, and they are priced differently from a full load. A single mattress or one recliner does not get charged as though it filled the truck.

What happens to everything after it leaves?

Loads are sorted where the local facilities support it. Usable furniture and household goods go to donation partners where they meet the receiving standards, metal and electronics go to recyclers, and only what is left goes to a transfer station or landfill.

Will the crew move furniture I want to keep?

Crews are there to remove items rather than to rearrange a home, but shifting a piece a short distance so they can reach something behind it is a normal part of the job. Full-scale furniture moving is a moving company's work.
